As long as they don’t interfere with one another, there is no issue running multiple baby monitors in the same house.  If they run on radio frequency, some can be fixed by changing the frequency channel on one of the monitors so they are running on different channels.  Not all monitors that run on radio have the option of changing it though.  Research to find a monitor that has multiple channels. If they run on Wi-Fi, there could be an issue interfering with other electronic devices.

Baby monitors with two cameras might be a better option

Baby monitors can be expensive, so an easier and more affordable way would be to get a monitor that has the capability of setting up another camera.  There are quite a few out there and they are easy to pair together.  Do your research to find what works best for you.

This will save you the hassle of interference from another monitor.

How do I add a second camera to my baby monitor?

It depends on the model that you own.

There should be a pairing option, either on the monitor screen menu or smartphone app for those that support it.  If you are going to add another camera, make sure it is the model that you have.  For example, InfantOptics has a pair button on the camera that allows you to add another camera.

Your best bet is to purchase a unit that you know can be upgraded with more cameras later so that you won’t have to worry about this issue.

Can you get baby monitors with three or four cameras?

It is not as common to find cameras that come with three or four cameras out of the box as they typically max out at two.

These should not be used if your child has a medical condition.  Only proper equipment prescribed by the pediatrician/ hospital should be used to monitor the child if necessary

Unintended baby monitors

If you don’t want to spend money on a baby monitor, use what is already available.

You can easily use the video apps on your smartphone, such as Facebook or Zoom.  If you have old smartphones lying around, connect each of them to the Wi-Fi and download the app you want to use.  Then, connect it to your current smartphone and you can watch your children.  You can also use security cameras that are already in the house as long as they have the ability to provide a live feed.

The cameras might need to be repositioned to the baby’s bedroom or play room.

Using a baby monitor with Wi-Fi

Being able to watch and talk to our children from monitors and smartphones is great, but proceed with caution.  Hackers have been able to access monitors via Wi-Fi, making it easy to spy on children and the house.  There have been stories of parents hearing voices talking to their children from the monitors as well as the cameras moving around and turning on at random times of the day.  

Always make sure the security options on your monitors and apps are turned on, use a secure password, and check frequently for any unusual activity.
